The Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce is seeking an organized and competent candidate to fulfill the position of Tourism Development Coordinator.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in tourism/marketing or related experience. The position demands excellent interpersonal and project management skills, effective facilitation skills, strong written and oral communication skills as well as a proven track record with advertising and design in all types of print and electronic mediums. Occasional travel is required for this position.

Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce - Job Description

Reporting Relationship and Role:
The Tourism Development Coordinator will be responsible to the Executive Director of the Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce.

Scope:
The Tourism Development Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the Revelstoke Tourism Development Strategy (2004). The Tourism Development Coordinator is guided by the Executive Director and the Tourism Advisory Committee regarding the implementation of the Strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Implementation of the Revelstoke Tourism Development Strategy includes, but is not limited to the following:

1. Work with appropriate education agencies to organize tourism service quality courses.
2. Package winter, summer, off-season activities by working with industry, clubs, institutions, tour wholesalers and operators. This includes working with tourism sub-sectors to foster cross-selling among operators.
3. Maintain a database of tour wholesalers, develop mailing list of clubs and associations in order that promotional material can be mailed by Chamber clerical staff.
4. Work with industry in order to research, write or gather articles to send to travel editors. Organize familiarization tours for those writers and work with industry initiated familiarization tours. Develop an effective multi-faceted media kit.
5. To ensure that Revelstoke has representation at trade and consumer shows as found necessary.
6. Develop and sell various marketing initiatives to local and larger corporate customers.
7. Working with computer programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator to market Revelstoke by placing advertising in trade publications and other media.
8. To review and organize in house brochure, map printing and electronic media.
9. Ensure continued update of Revelstoke Tourism website.
10. Formulate and present proposals for projects and secure funding.
11. Generate revenue from various tourism-marketing initiatives.
12. Be entrepreneurial to ensure on-going funding for the contract.
13. Other related tasks.

Inter-relationship Structure:
The Tourism Development Coordinator is a staff member of the Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce and will receive clerical support from Chamber staff.

Qualifications:
Relevant degree or diploma in tourism/marketing or related experience. The position demands excellent inter-personal skills, project management skills, effective facilitation skills and the ability to work unsupervised, as well as strong writing and communication skills.
